Initiatives in Neurology
Being our intention to educate and make society aware of different diseases, demolishing myths associated with them, as for example it is frequent in epilepsy; try to eliminate any perception of helplessness; and to convey to patients and their families that there are even pleasant ways of overcoming biases and some of the difficulties that unfortunately accompany the disease, Eisai Farmacêutica has developed the following projects:
Theatre Workshop for People with Epilepsy
As part of the hhc program, we have been developing, over time, a theatre workshop aimed at people with epilepsy. This initiative has been successfully repeated, consistently maintaining a three-day workshop format and reinforcing its positive impact on participants.
Theatre plays a central role as a tool for expression, personal development, and inclusion, providing a safe and creative space where participants can explore emotions, build self-confidence, and develop essential skills for everyday life.
E-Book “João Goes and Comes Back”
Demystifying Epilepsy from Childhood.
An hhc project to listen, include, and educate through children.
Stigma exists at all ages. However, we believe it is possible to learn a great deal about barriers, everyday challenges, and even solutions by listening to children. They are often the ones who, more than adults, believe that the future can be imagined—and built.
It was with this conviction that this hhc project was created: the development of a children’s e-book about epilepsy, designed to explain the condition in a language that is close to children—simple and accessible—helping to demystify it from an early age.
Sail for Epilepsy
Eisai collaborated on the Sail for Epilepsy project, led by neuroscientist Phil Haydon. This initiative combines international sailing with raising awareness of epilepsy and fundraising for research. During its stop in Portugal in 2022, the project organized educational activities aimed at people with epilepsy, in which the Eisai team actively participated—supporting the organization, accompanying participants, and contributing to the development of nautical workshops and meeting spaces for sharing experiences.
Creating Artistic Waves
These types of activities promote physical and psychological well-being, and the majority of the physicians and the relatives encourage these children to participate in them.
Eisai Portugal promoted “Creating Artistic Waves” and invited these children and youngsters to participate, making paintings, drawings, sculptures, pottery … whatever they would like to do and feel happy doing.
This action took place at the Lisbon Zoo, attended by 24 children and youngsters; all employees of Eisai Portugal were present, along with Neuropediatricians, Painters, Sculptors, Teachers from various disciplines and Plastic Artists, giving support as the work was done.
Once all the works were completed, they were sent to participate in the Contest “Art Competition for the International Epilepsy Day 2017”.
They are very proud! And we are proud of them!!
Painting Workshop International Epilepsy Day
8th February.
To embrace our hhc theme, Eisai Farmacêutica is working all together, to spend a time with children suffering from epilepsy.
The main goal is to promote to these children, an activity where they can learn something about them self-selves, and discover in an art way, their expression of life.
All Eisai Portugal, staff and sales team, was involved and shared with these children some art experience, painting each one their own t-shirt with the theme of the international campaign:” In the future I want to be…”
Each t-shirt once painted was sold on the annual Congress from National League against Epilepsy, and the amount collected was donated to EPI – Epilepsy Portuguese Association.
Martial Arts Workshop
A way to harmonize body and mind.
At Jardins do Palácio, O’Porto, occurred this workshop where several people were invited to participated and the main goal was to promote a wellbeing between body and mind and to show through martial arts the way to feel good with himself, even suffering from epilepsy.
This event was held integrated at National Portuguese Congress of Epilepsy with the collaboration of EPI, Associação Portuguesa de Familiares, Amigos e Pessoas com Epilepsia, LIGA – Portuguese League Against Epilepsy and the certified coach of the session was our Eisai Farmacêutica colleague Jose Manuel Silva.
